Enhane the Definition of Your Jawline with Chin Implant Surgery
Many men and women feel that their chin does not complement the rest of their facial features. Others feel that they do not have a strong enough jawline, and it makes the skin of their neck appear fleshy and loose. Chin augmentation surgery can add definition to the chin and enhance the overall appearance of the face. Dr. Dennis Hurwitz provides his patients with chin implant surgery options at his Pittsburgh office. Dr. Hurwitz is a respected authority in plastic surgery who calls upon decades of experience and an artistic eye to provide patients with beautiful results. If you feel self-conscious about the appearance of your chin, and would like to explore your surgical options, please contact our office to make an appointment with Dr. Hurwitz.
Chin Implant Surgery Candidates
Chin implant procedures can add definition to the jawline and balance the appearance of other facial features. Patients who have a recessed, pointed, or squared chin often make excellent candidates for implant procedures. Some patients who feel that their nose is too prominent or their neck is too fleshy can greatly benefit from a chin implant procedure, which can provide a beautiful aesthetic counterbalance. Candidates should be non-smokers in good health, have reasonable expectations for the surgery, and have no cardiovascular issues like high blood pressure. Patients who take Accutane® may not be good chin augmentation candidates because this medication can affect bone growth and contribute to keloid scarring (tough, irregularly shaped scars). The best way to determine your candidacy for this procedure is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hurwitz.
The Chin Implant
Chin implants are typically made from GORE-TEX® or silicone to remain firm yet pliable, and are shaped like the portion of the chin strap of a football helmet that comes into contact with the skin. Your surgeon will make further adjustments to customize the shape of your implant, resulting in a strong, natural-looking jawline.
The Chin Implant Surgery Procedure
A small incision will be made on the underside of the chin or on the inside of the mouth between the gums and lower lip. The implant will be inserted through this incision and placed in front of the lower jaw. Your surgeon will make any necessary adjustments to ensure that the desired appearance is achieved. Finally, the implant will be sutured into place. The sutures will be removed after about 10 days. Patients should avoid strenuous activities for the first week following surgery, and can expect bruising and swelling at the site to last for up to six weeks. Complications from chin implant procedures are rare, and when performed by an experienced surgeon, the results can be very favorable.
