Common Concerns Addressed with a Male Body Lift

A Body Lift Can Also Help You Bulk Up

Although many male patients choose a custom body lift to trim away excess fat and skin, a body lift can also be used to add volume to areas where you are lacking mass and definition, such as the shoulders or pecs. By performing a fat transfer, our plastic surgeons help you achieve a more proportionate, robust, and masculine figure.

Fat transfer involves removing fat from one area of the body such as the buttocks, purifying it, and then transplanting it to another area. Fat is commonly transferred to the pectoral area or the shoulders to create a more dominant upper body. Our plastic Surgeons do this far more often than muscle implants.

Our unique and high-quality transformations are so well know that New York Plastic Surgeon editor of the 2023 issue of the Clinics in Plastic Surgery devoted to plastic surgery in men, requested Dr. Hurwitz and Dr. Davila contribute a chapter on Contemporary Management of Gynecomastia.

Information About Male Body Lifts

Some images are of models, not actual patients.

The male body lift procedure is intended to promote a more masculine figure, which is traditionally defined by broad shoulders and a dominant chest paired with a smaller waist and hips. If you are tired of working out and not seeing the definition and shape you desire, you may wish to consider undergoing a male body lift. You may also be a good candidate for the procedure if you have excess skin remaining on your body after significant weight loss or if you suffer from gynecomastia, or enlarged breasts.

What Male Body Lift Procedures Do You Offer?

  • Liposuction and Abdominoplasty: We use the VASERlipo™ system to perform safe, effective liposuction with seamless results. This minimally invasive system uses ultrasound energy to evenly target isolated deposits of fat while leaving surrounding healthy tissues undisturbed. Depending on the areas you want to address and your unique case, we recommend using VASERlipo™ either on its own or in conjunction with another procedure, such as abdominoplasty. Abdominoplasty, more popularly known as tummy tuck surgery, involves the removal of excess fat, skin, and tissue from the abdominal area. Patients who have lost a significant amount of weight are often good candidates for abdominoplasty.
  • Abdominal Etching: Patients seeking a further definition of their muscles and contours may wish to consider abdominal etching, which uses liposuction to remove exercise-resistant fat deposits through small incisions in the abdominal area. These incisions are usually made around the navel or in the natural creases of the abdomen. By aspirating small amounts of fat, we can refine your abdominal region and give you the chiseled appearance you may not have been able to achieve through diet and exercise alone.*
  • Fat Transfer: We also perform fat transfer to help improve the male figure. Fat transfer involves removing fat from one area of the body, such as the buttocks, purifying it, and then transplanting it to another area. Fat is commonly transferred to the pectoral area or the shoulders to create a more dominant upper body. We use this technique more often than muscle implants. After the fat is transferred, patients can engage in the appropriate exercise regimen to turn the fat into muscle.

What Is Gynecomastia?

Gynecomastia causes men to develop excess tissue, skin, or fat in one or both of their breasts. Hormonal changes, heredity, obesity, and the use of certain drugs can cause gynecomastia. Sufferers may experience self-consciousness when revealing their chests because they do not conform to the traditional male physique. Diet and exercise generally do not improve the appearance of breasts in men with gynecomastia.

What Does Surgery for Gynecomastia Involve?

Surgery for gynecomastia involves the removal of excess fat, skin, or tissue from the chest area. During the procedure, patients are placed under IV sedation or general anesthesia. If excess fat is the primary cause of the enlarged male breasts, liposuction may be used to treat the condition. If glandular breast tissue or excess skin are contributing to the condition, excision techniques may be used. Severe cases of gynecomastia may require repositioning of the nipple or reduction of the areola, both of which require excision. We may recommend a combination of liposuction and surgical excision to produce the best possible results.
