LaserCap® Treatment Offers Non-invasive Hair Restoration

LaserCap logoThinning or lost hair is often unavoidable for both men and women. In fact, 50 percent of men over the age of 40 and 75% of females over 65 lose their hair from hereditary causes. Although it is effective, surgical treatment is a measure that many are not willing to undergo in order to restore lost hair. In recent years, treatment for hair loss has significantly improved and now includes non-surgical alternatives such as LaserCap®. This form of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) can improve cellular respiration and stimulate hair follicle growth for safe and effective results. The Hurwitz Center offers convenient LaserCap® treatment at his Pittsburgh, PA, office. Contact us today to schedule a consultation.*

Low-level Laser Therapy

LLLT uses low-power lasers or light-emitting diodes to improve cellular function. The treatment has been used for over 50 years to reduce pain and inflammation, promote wound healing, and regenerate tissue. LLLT has also been shown to stimulate cells in hair follicles. With improved function, the follicles are able to grow healthier, thicker, and stronger hair.

How LLLT Affects Hair Growth

Human hair goes through three phases during its life cycle. During the anagen stage, the hair is actively growing. This phase can last anywhere between two to six years. When the growing period ends, the hair enters a transitional state for two to six weeks, known as the catagen phase. Then the hair reaches the telogen stage, during which it rests for about two to three months before being shed. The follicle will then begin the anagen phase once more. However, as we age or outside influences damage our follicular health, later growth cycles can result in thinner hair or less hair.

LLLT can treat the follicle during the anagen phase. A cap made of hundreds of diodes is placed on the head, targeting the scalp with low-power lasers for non-invasive treatment. These beams of light can encourage cell stimulation in the scalp improving respiration and function. The healthier follicles are then able to produce stronger and healthier hair growth in the future, but hair that has already grown is not affected.*

Studies show that low-level laser treatment stops the progression of hair loss for most men and women, and in many cases can promote regrowth.

Effectiveness of LaserCap® Treatment

Studies show that LLLT stops the progression of hair loss for most men and women, and in many cases can promote regrowth. LaserCap® treatment is typically more effective if used in the early stages of hair loss, as are most hair loss treatments. When used in tandem with hair restoration surgery, LaserCap® treatment can help speed the regrowth of transplanted follicles. It also can stimulate the sebaceous glands to make hair softer and silkier.*

Safety and Results

LLLT is non-invasive, cleared by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and a very low incidence of side effects. The lasers generate no heat, so the treatment is also comfortable.

Because hair generally grows about a half an inch a month, it takes time for results to become apparent. Consistent users of LaserCap® should see noticeable effects in about three to six months. Significant regrowth and results can take up to a full year or more.*
