Rejuvenate Your Appearance with AcuPulse
If you want to rejuvenate your facial features without surgery, a laser skin resurfacing treatment with Lumenis® AcuPulse™ can reduce the appearance of wrinkles, discoloration, and enlarged pores, along with many other types of blemishes. In as little as 30 minutes, Dr. Dennis Hurwitz can use AcuPulse laser skin resurfacing to provide dramatic results. During this treatment, Dr. Hurwitz or another member of our staff can utilize a CO2 laser to remove cosmetic flaws while brightening and smoothing your skin. At the Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh, PA, we offer a range of surgical and non-surgical treatment options to enhance your appearance. Laser skin resurfacing is a minimally invasive option for restoring youth to your appearance.
What Is AcuPulse?
AcuPulse is an advanced ablative laser resurfacing workstation which uses the CO2 technology from Lumenis to provide quick and easy treatments. Using short, highly controlled pulses of energy, the AcuPulse laser can precisely target the treatment areas without causing excessive damage to surrounding tissue, reducing discomfort and lowering the chance of side effects. This system is highly versatile, allowing Dr. Hurwitz to treat a range of superficial and deep skin blemishes.
Customized Treatment Options
Depending on the conditions you wish to treat, we can tailor your AcuPulse laser skin resurfacing procedure to fit your needs. We can use AcuPulse for treatment from your forehead to your neck. This system can treat a wide range of conditions, including:
- Sun damage
- Fine and deep lines
- Uneven skin texture
- Acne scars
- Skin lesions
- Enlarged pores
- Irregular pigmentation
- Skin furrows
- Actinic keratosis
One of our skilled physician assistants or estheticians can perform lower frequency treatments to reduce the appearance of fine lines and other minor flaws. If you want to address deep wrinkles or other advanced conditions, Dr. Hurwitz can use AcuPulse to treat deeper levels of your skin for more dramatic results.
What to Expect
Before beginning your treatment, we will provide you with a mild oral sedative to help you relax. Then, we will apply a local anesthetic. Typically, we allow the anesthetic to remain on your skin for about 20 minutes before beginning to ensure you will remain comfortable throughout the procedure. If you are receiving a more intense treatment, we may supplement your anesthesia with lidocaine.
Once you are comfortable, Dr. Hurwitz or another member of our staff will apply the laser treatment. While this procedure is virtually painless, you may feel a pins and needles sensation when the laser is applied. A typical AcuPulse treatment lasts about 30 minutes. Some patients require a second appointment to achieve the results they desire.
Downtime and Recovery
Unlike a facelift or other surgical procedure, AcuPulse skin resurfacing treatments require little downtime. Depending on the depth of skin treated, you may need as little as three days of recovery time. However, for some patients, recovery can last up to two weeks.
A laser skin resurfacing treatment with our advanced AcuPulse ablative system can offer significant enhancements for a variety of skin blemishes
Immediately after treatment, you may experience side effects such as oozing, scabbing, blistering, or mild bleeding. These issues should clear up within a couple of days. However, redness could last for a couple of weeks. In general, patients report symptoms similar to a sunburn, with mild to moderate peeling.
Enhancing Your Results
Almost every patient who undergoes treatment with AcuPulse will see an improvement. At the Hurwitz Center, we firmly believe this is the best laser treatment currently on the market. However, non-surgical procedures typically do not produce permanent results. We recommend following up your skin resurfacing with an intensive skin care program, including topical medications and microdermabrasion, to delay the need for an additional laser treatment.
