Laser Skin Resurfacing in Pittsburgh, PA

If you want to rejuvenate your facial features without surgery, a laser skin resurfacing treatment with Lumenis® AcuPulse™ can reduce wrinkles, discoloration, enlarged pores, and many other types of blemishes. With this CO2 laser, our specialists can remove cosmetic flaws and smooth the skin in as little as 30 minutes. Laser skin resurfacing is just one of the many surgical and non-surgical cosmetic treatments we offer at the Pittsburgh Center for Plastic Surgery in Pittsburgh, PA.

What Is AcuPulse?

AcuPulse is an advanced ablative laser resurfacing tool which uses the CO2 technology from Lumenis to provide quick and easy treatment. With short, highly controlled pulses of energy, this laser can precisely target treatment areas without causing excessive damage to surrounding tissue. As a result, we can reduce discomfort during and after treatment and minimize the risk of side effects. Because of the system's versatility, the Pittsburgh Center can treat a range of superficial and deep skin blemishes.

Customized Treatment Options

While AcuPulse laser skin resurfacing is limited to the region between your forehead and neck, we can tailor your procedure to fit a wide variety of conditions, including:

  • Sun damage
  • Fine and deep lines
  • Uneven skin texture
  • Acne scars
  • Wrinkles
  • Skin lesions
  • Enlarged pores
  • Irregular pigmentation
  • Skin furrows
  • Actinic keratosis

One of our skilled physician assistants or aestheticians can perform lower frequency treatments to reduce the appearance of fine lines and other minor flaws. For more advanced conditions, the Pittsburgh Center can use AcuPulse to treat deeper levels of your skin for more dramatic results.

What to Expect

Before beginning laser skin resurfacing Pittsburgh aesthetic specialists will provide you with a mild oral sedative and apply a local anesthetic so you remain comfortable throughout the procedure. If you are receiving a more intense treatment, we may supplement your anesthesia with lidocaine.

Once you are comfortable, one of our surgeons or another member of our staff will begin treatment. While this procedure is virtually painless, you may feel a pins-and-needles sensation when the laser is applied. A typical appointment lasts about 30 minutes, although some patients require a second visit to achieve the results they desire.

Downtime and Recovery

Unlike a facelift or other surgical procedure, AcuPulse laser skin resurfacing requires little downtime. Depending on the depth of skin treated, you may need as little as three days of recovery time, although more involved treatments may require up to two weeks.

Almost every patient who undergoes treatment with AcuPulse sees improvement.

In the days after laser skin resurfacing most patients report symptoms similar to a those of a sunburn. Side effects such as oozing or scabbing should clear up within a couple of days. However, redness could last for several weeks.

How Much Does Laser Skin Resurfacing Cost?

Depending on the depth and extent of treatment, who performs the procedure, and any pre- or post-treatment care, Pittsburgh laser skin resurfacing costs can range anywhere from $599 to $1,999. During a consultation at the office, your provider can provide an estimate for your treatment so that you can make an informed decision about your care.

Extent of Treatment

The AcuPulse system can treat a range of conditions, from fine lines to skin lesions. Your goal for the procedure will greatly affect how much treatment costs. If you only wish to treat small areas, such as around your eyes or mouth, a treatment with AcuPulse generally costs about $599. However, full face treatments are typically more expensive.

Depth of Treatment

Certain aesthetic issues, such as fine lines or mild skin pigmentation concerns, usually require only superficial treatment with the CO2 laser. These lighter and less extensive procedures are handled by our estheticians or physician assistants and do not take as long. As a result, they are less expensive than more complex treatments. A full face fractional treatment typically costs around $1,699. However, it is important to keep in mind that if you undergo a more superficial treatment, you are more likely to require additional follow-ups, which will increase the overall treatment cost over time.

Because our surgeons are the only members of the team who can perform deeper, more aggressive skin resurfacing treatments, these are typically more expensive. A full face ablation with our surgeons generally costs about $1,999. These more intense procedures can address deep wrinkles and more extensive skin concerns. However, while an individual session is more expensive than that for lighter treatments, you are less likely to need multiple follow-up procedures.

At the Pittsburgh Center, we believe that AcuPulse is the best laser treatment currently available.

Additional Procedures

Almost every patient who undergoes a laser skin resurfacing treatment with AcuPulse sees improvement. At the Pittsburgh Center, we firmly believe this is the best laser treatment currently on the market. However, the results are temporary. We recommend following up your skin resurfacing with an intensive skin care program, including topical medications and microdermabrasion, to delay the need for additional treatment.

The final cost of your treatment depends on whether you pursue additional nonsurgical treatment, such as microdermabrasion and Juvéderm. We can also provide additional AcuPulse treatment for about $999. While these procedures add to the final cost of your care, they often complement results for a more complete transformation.

Why Choose the Pittsburgh Center

In general, a reputable surgeon with high levels of experience will charge more for treatment. However, while choosing a plastic surgeon who charges lower prices may save you money in the short term, there is a higher risk of side effects.
