VASERlipo® Can Provide Smoother, More Precise Body Contouring

VaserLipo logoLiposuction is a traditional body contouring procedure designed to target pockets of fat that are not easily reduced through diet and exercise. A revolutionary, minimally invasive method, known as VASERlipo®, can remove these fat deposits using VASER® (vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance) ultrasound technology. This new method is gentler than the traditional liposuction process and gives your surgeon greater control to deliver a smoother, better contoured appearance.

Dr. Dennis Hurwitz, an innovator and educator among plastic surgeons, provides VASERlipo® for optimal aesthetic results at his Pittsburgh, PA, office. To learn more about this advanced technique, schedule a consultation today.*

Traditional Liposuction

Target areas for liposuction include the thighs, knees, arms, chest, abdomen, neck, and chin. The procedure typically involves making several small incisions, into which a small tube called a cannula is inserted. The cannula is moved back and forth to loosen fat deposits and remove the excess fat.

VASER® Treatments

The VASER® system allows Dr. Dennis Hurwitz to reshape patients' bodies with minimally invasive techniques. This ultrasound system can be used at Hurwitz Center for Plastic Surgery to remove fat using VASERlipo®, or in the VASERshape® system to smooth bulges. Additionally, we also provide VASERsmooth® for cellulite treatment.

Why VASERlipo®?

VASERlipo® is minimally invasive, and patients usually see significant results after just one treatment. Unlike traditional liposuction, VASERlipo® applies ultrasound technology to break apart fat. This process is gentler and results in less blood loss during the procedure. VASERlipo® also allows Dr. Hurwitz to work more precisely on sculpting contours and trimming problem areas.*

The VASERlipo® Procedure

During your procedure, you will first receive injections of tumescent fluid filled with microscopic gas bubbles. The fluid is usually a saline solution containing a mixture of lidocaine and epinephrine. This will numb the area and shrink surrounding blood vessels while expanding the volume of the target area so that the doctor can easily remove unwanted fat cells.

VASERlipo® is gentler and results in less blood loss during the procedure. The technique also allows Dr. Hurwitz to work more precisely on sculpting contours and trimming problem areas.

Dr. Hurwitz will then make a small incision and insert tiny probes. The probes vibrate at a high ultrasound frequency, expanding and collapsing the gas bubbles to dislodge fat cells. As they are loosened, fat cells mix with the tumescent fluid. Dr. Hurwitz then uses special cannulas to remove the fat, while leaving surrounding tissue unaffected.

The procedure takes an hour or more, depending on the size and number of areas being treated. The fat removed during VASERlipo® can often be transferred to accentuate another area of the body for procedures such as buttock or breast augmentation.

Recovery and Aftercare

VASERlipo® is an outpatient surgery, so you will be able to go home after the procedure. Dr. Hurwitz will prescribe a recovery regimen, including wearing special compression garments to further enhance contouring. You will need to rest for 12 hours, avoid strenuous activities for two or three weeks, and the doctor may recommend massage therapy.

In the days following the procedure, you should notice significant results. These aesthetic effects will typically continue improving as you heal and your skin retracts. You can expect to see final results approximately three to four months after treatment.*
